The vision of WhatWorks was derived from many influences. As a kid I fell in love with football - specifically playing Quarterback. The position, often called the most difficult in sports, requires a strategic mind, and the ability to asses and react when the perfect strategy proves to be not so perfect. Adversity must be met with calm resolve and intense determination. I cherished the game, its lessons and the work that was required to achieve success. I was considered one of the top 10 HS QB prospects in the country and received many scholarship offers, but my thirst for education drove my college selection process. It was important to me to be more, and to do more - that would require a great academic institution. Therefore, I chose the University of Virginia - an incredible school in a beautiful town.

Unfortunately, I learned rather quickly that football and my academic pursuits were struggling to coexist. I couldn’t schedule classes that I needed for my Cognitive Science / Computer Science major and staying up to study until 3am only to wake up at 5am for workouts wasn’t doing my football skills or education much good. I came to the proverbial fork in the road and chose academics over athletics.

My passion for football was replaced by the amazing things that you can do with properly written code, designed to innately mesh with the human mind. It can create powerful tools and solutions with near limitless possibilities. And, ironically, to create these incredible tools you must be a strategic thinker, you must be able to asses and react, you must be able to confront adversity with a calm resolve and intense determination - it was familiar territory. Add to it: hard work, vision, creativity, team leadership and most importantly integrity (something that has guided me my entire life), and you have the qualities that I want to bring to the world of Software Development - they are critical to success, they are the foundation to WhatWorks!

Our Why

Divergent innovation - our difference lies within the details!

Our Wow

Ecstatic end users are our product - great software development is our tool. Clients are inspired by the spark of an idea to make something easier, better, more powerful, more accessible, and more effective. However, responsible solutions must start and end with user needs and wants. They are, after all, the very reason for being. Questions must be asked, answered and evaluated over, and over, and over - at WhatWorks, asking why leads to wow!

The wow in developing software is rooted in innovative, cognitive connections between the product and the end user in order to span the digital divide - an abyss that so many tech initiatives fall in to. Too often, cognitive principals are not applied to development and poor executions lead to users becoming frustrated by scope creep, poor messaging and bad design. When “the human reality” drives development, clutter is replaced with clarity, creating intuitive, efficient experiences.

Our Way

We build products and programs addressing needs and wants in a way that is unique and relevant - enhancing productivity, accessibility, sharing, connecting, and changing the human experience for the better.

We create communities one experience at a time - empathetically developing useful, value-oriented software that improves the time people spend with their devices (allowing there to be more moments of even greater human connections).

Responsibility and accountability towards the individuals we work with (clients and associates alike) while incorporating security and appropriate sensitivities into all that we do.

Working tirelessly to enhance opportunities, we want our clients to realize their goals and dreams, and we want our talented associates to learn and grow in an environment that embraces a collective process and continuous improvement.
